Entry from: Kara-Say, Kyrgyzstan Entry Title: "Cold at Chunur-Kol Lake" Entry: "After breakfast, we trekked along the valley floor, passing the point of descent yesterday. Passed some houses, and an ancient-looking mud-Mosque, where Kursant visited. Also stopped at a stable where a toddler performed a dance for us, and were we had a taste of horse mild yoghurt. Met an elderly horseman wearing a Kalpak (traditional Kyrgyz wool hat). Then started climbing up gradually along a sealed road. As we got higher - around 2400m altitude now - ran into some yaks. 1230 hrs we reached lunch point next to a stream where truck parked. This was when we cut up the delicious Hami melon purchased along the journey to Karakol. Then we climbed a hill to look from Arabic engraving on a large stone - remnant of the old silk road - which Olga found based on Alik's verbal description (how neat; I would not have found it with a GPS). The group decided, based on the experience so far, it was not possible to walk to the designated camp spot for the night, so everyone gladly boarded the truck, squeezed though we had to, to be transported over the Tosor Pass (3893 m). There our decision was justified as the mountain weather turned inclement and it was cloud and flurries. We could see the glaciers up close through our frosted ...
